I recently read Beautiful Outlaw by John Eldridge. It was very good.
Arguing that humor and playfulness would not exist in creation if they were not created by a playful, humorous god, Eldridge takes modern Pharisees to task for being so uptight and keeping Jesus so distant when he wants to be friends. He also dispels the notion that Jesus was a meek man that avoided conflict. From healing on the Sabbath to overturning the moneylender’s tables, he was one that went looking for conflict.
