The beaked-bicycle-blob-thing on the left is not usable, but those "wheels" gave me the idea for a wheeled creature. Wheeled creatures have been thought of before, and people often pooh-pooh the idea because of the difficulties associated with connecting blood vessels to a rotating shaft, so I thought of a different kind of wheel. My creatures will have wheels that roll very slowly by growing out of the organism on one side and being absorbed back in one the other. Alternatively, the wheel might never be absorbed, but merely pass through the center of the growth follicle so that yet another layer can be added. This could be a way for desert plants to migrate across the desert in search of water. I call them bicycle bushes.
Taking the concept further, I thought of a sheet-like plant that disassembles its rear edge, pumps the free cells through constantly forming and reforming vessels across the sheet, and redeposits the cells on the front edge, thus slowly moving the organism along. This would probably require a lot of energy, but it could be done. The sheet-plants would be photosynthetic and travel across the desert in search of mates.
Now I just have to draw these things.
