Below is what I was able to throw together in ten minutes.
Ever since she was born almost twenty-three years ago now, Francis had wanted to see the sun. She had seen photographs of course, but nobody was allowed outside above ground – not in almost one thousand years. This didn’t satisfy her of course. She had to see it herself.
Now, finally, she had her chance – and she was hurtling towards it at twenty-five percent the speed of light. “Great, just great,” she said sarcastically. At these speeds she would impact it in just over half an hour. Of course, it would take slightly longer by her measure due to relativistic effects – but she didn’t dwell on that. Either way, she would be very dead. “Great!”
The escape pod’s warning signal came on again. “I know! I know already!” she yelled at the machine, smacking…
I was already beginning to get the idea that Francis could release the air in the pod to alter course so she would just miss the sun and be flung out of the solar system. She could stay in a stasis pod to survive until revived millions of years later by aliens of another galaxy. Unfortunately I ran out of time. Any ideas how she got in this predicament in the first place?
