The antennae are what is most interesting about the Sligits. They contain the organs of hearing and possess three forms of magic. First, they can enchant nearby objects to vibrate and thereby speak for them, since they have no vocal organs themselves. Second, they can enchant nearby objects to levitate in a fixed position or to move in certain patterns. This enchantment lasts even after they leave the area. Third, they can teleport objects from place to place. This is also how they eat: by transporting captured slugs directly inside their stomachs. They have no mouths or esophaguses. Any Sligit losing both antennae will be unable to hear, speak, do magic, and will eventually starve to death.
Over thousands of years the Sligits have learned how to build complex machines by arranging properly enchanted objects together. By setting magical currents in motion of teleportation, levitation, and vibration, these machines will continue to run until long after the Sligits have gone.
