The first book (The Spider, The Witch, And The Spaceship) is partly about how people perceive things differently, especially adults and children, and how it might seem that the universe changed since we were young. The main character is a child and sees the universe a particular way. The second book (tentatively titled The Gorilla With Twenty-Four Heads) is about the main character being shipwrecked on a harsh, dry planet (Tizin-A) and being pursued by a strange, Gorilla-like creature. Samples will be up in the next few weeks.
Tizin-A is the sole planet orbiting a red dwarf star (Tizin) in its habitable zone. The planet has some water but is very dry. Gravity at the surface is one-eighth that on Earth, yet it has a remarkably Earth-like atmosphere. Its day-night cycle is 381 hours, or about 16 Earth-days. Combined with the low humidity, this makes for large temperature swings between day and night. It is populated by echinoderms, false plants (possibly distant relatives of basket stars), vertebrates, true plants, and slug-like creatures.
I have already posted four of the creatures living on this world: top stars, laser stars, shellpuncher stars, and tank stars. More will soon follow. Tell me if you like them and tell me what types of creatures you would like to see in the future. Also, what is a good name for the series?
