Description: Shelves is a boulder of dense material (mostly metal) that tapers at the top with shelves running around his perimeter. He has no moving parts, but he has the ability to teleport into any position, creating sonic booms if in an atmosphere to push on objects. He can also teleport at will other objects touching him. He can also use gravity to fall on things. However, he is incapable of remaining in one place for long and has the tendency to teleport between several places repeatedly. His attention span is likewise very short and matches his physical activity. Shelves is likely an aracial creature, meaning he is one-of-a-kind and does not reproduce. However, the other characters he interacts the most with, most of which think of themselves as female, all think of him as male.
History: His origins are unknown. He simply remembers becoming self-aware one moment on the Mobukopu homeworld.
For many years, Shelves lived on the Mobukopu homeworld, keeping mostly to the caverns that stretch for kilometers just under the surface because none wanted him around. He would occasionally appear accidentally in the midst of moving traffic or over a weak structure, causing its destruction when he fell on it. Carrying on a conversation was impossible and he could not hold a job. He fought his restlessness and inability to remain focused mightily, but only succeeded in wearing himself out. After this, he became worse.
One day, he found himself teleporting between the same four locations repeatedly. The first location was in a cavern. There, he worked on setting up a computer program to track and predict his movements as the first step to creating an inhibitory force field to stop himself. The second location was also in a cavern. The third location was in a bank. The fourth location was in a field, where he became highly disruptive to some farmers, birds, and some children playing catch, blocking the ball. As he repeatedly changed location, he struggled to adjust to the four distinct storylines that progress.
As the day passed, he met two women (Lamb and Gumb) exploring the caves at location two. He carried on an intermittent conversation with them, who were unusually patient. They told him not to fight his nature, but to embrace it to become the best he can be by harnessing his powers more efficiently. Taking this advice, Shelves foiled a bank robbery, played with the kids, and aided the farmers. He found that he can direct the teleportation. He stopped worrying about losing his attention on subjects, knowing that he will likely soon end up back on the same subject again after finishing with whatever occupies his mind in the moment. In the meantime, he failed in his force field computations because he kept losing the data and starting over. Some others found his computer and tried to do the same thing to paralyze him permanently, but he thwarted them.
Description: Endrellea is a gaseous being whose particles are held together loosely at short distances and tightly at longer distances, making it impossible to stretch her in any direction more than nine meters. She is a shape-shifter, able to take on any appearance, but unable to hold more than eight grams without collapsing. She weighs three kilograms. She can hear very well but is incapable of producing consistent complex sounds and must communicate visually. She can see very well and can simulate different components of many different visual system types, thus able to see the world as others do.
The asteroid-bound gas creatures are thought to have reproduction based on the simultaneous copulation of twenty-one sexes. However, coming to consciousness as we understand it among the Spidips (which are male and female), Endrellea is most comfortable thinking of herself as a female.
History: Unknown to outsiders, gas-beings live trapped within matrices of stone inside a certain asteroid. They do not move, but each overlaps hundreds of others. Once, the asteroid collided with another. Several beings were killed, most retracted into the rock, and several were set free. Of these, all starved to death and dispersed except one that was accidentally picked up by a Spidip ship. They named her Endrellea and brought her to the Spidip homeworld.
Endrellea’s sudden freedom from rock caused her to develop a totally new form of consciousness that her people had never known, preventing her from ever wanting to go back.
For years, she happily accommodated those who wanted to watch her perform, becoming anything they desired, and dazzling her audiences with her inspirational beauty. Then, there arose those who claimed she was corrupting the masses, so enamoring them with herself that they could not see beauty anywhere else. Concerned that her critics might be right, she started to hold herself back, but it was never enough. Even when taking the ugliest forms she knew of, her critics were always able to find some beauty hidden somewhere. They accused her of deliberately corrupting people and claimed her beauty was an unnatural accident never meant to have happened. Eventually, she could take no more. Believing she had nothing left to lose, she chose to become what they already thought of her anyways, hoping to find affirmation in that. It was at least a role that the populace understood and somewhat accepted, even if they did not approve. She forced herself upon people and became a nuisance, seeking attention. Eventually, the Spidip people ganged together to capture and execute her. Lamb thought she understood her predicament and went to talk to her. She convinced her to apologize and then to ignore her critics from then on. She told her that while the universe had other sources of beauty, she should not hoard hers and deprive the masses of its purest form. In the end, she decided to leave the planet to its fate and travel the universe, seeking for those who needed a bit of cheer.

Name: Red Lips
Description: Red Lips is a thin, beautiful, blonde-haired, light-skinned, green-eyed humanoid with protruding cheeks and wide-set hips. She can cause damaging operational interference to unshielded electronic devices at distances of up to thirty yards and cannot control this without a dampening device. Her hair and skin can channel electrical energy, producing discharges in excess of 20,000 degrees Fahrenheit. She seems to have the ability to modulate both the temperature and location on her body of these sparks. Her hair flows towards the nearest conductive object and she makes use of a short-distance “conductivity sense” to navigate in the dark. She is capable of surviving exposure to space indefinitely. She heals rapidly and ages slowly. Her hair regrows rapidly after cutting and can be used for bio-grafting. Her tears are powerful painkillers. Her blood is compatible with almost anyone. She has the ability to exhale a knockout gas (which smells a bit like spiced apples). She has the ability to resurrect the recently dead by infusing her own life force into them by direct contact (this hurts and drains her). She suffers from recurring hiccups and dry, bloodshot eyes. Parts of her body flush with blood, becoming bright red in response to certain emotions. Her lips turn red when angry, her ears when sad, her whole body when embarrassed, her neck when confused, her breasts when happy, and her legs when afraid. She experiences each of these emotions often, strongly, and has no control over them or her physical reactions. She is extremely impulsive, blurting out whatever happens to be on her mind, including embarrassing details about those she speaks to.
History: A Mobukopu science ship once entered an uncharted area of space and started to experience severe electrical failure. There was some sort of disaster that killed several people. The rest died of sleep deprivation when the stasis pods malfunctioned (Mobukopu have lost the ability to sleep without stasis pods). The disaster also necessitated that energy-based beings living in space find shelter inside of solid objects. Many entered cargo and became inert. One being entered the only surviving Mobukopu and the only child on board (she was the four-year old daughter of two of the scientists).
Merging with the energy entity and learning to sleep on her own caused severe physiological and psychological changes. The girl lost her leg hair and grew hair on her head, more resembling a human than a Mobukopu. The Mobukopu girl became chemically dependent on the energy being at the cellular level, unable to survive ten minutes without it. The energy being discovered for the first time a more efficient way to store memories by using the girl’s brain, meaning the energy being would lose ninety percent of her personality and sense of self if separated. The two quickly merged into one and indeed soon forgot that they were ever two.
A little over a year later, a rescue team found the science ship and brought the strange girl to the Mobukopu homeworld where they performed torturous experiments on her. She eventually killed them all and escaped.
Until she was fifteen, she had so little control over her emotions (especially anger) that she killed or crippled almost everyone she met and lived mostly in the wild, sometimes sneaking into towns at night to steal food from the trash or to electrically cook a pet for dinner. She could not even control the strength or location of her discharges then, tending to disperse them in all directions burning everything around her. She used to burn off all her clothes with every tantrum until eventually giving up wearing clothes at all. Fortunately, she is able to keep herself warm with electricity. She was called “Red Lips” by those unlucky enough to run into her (and survive). She had no other name.
At sixteen, she finally attempted to enter society under an assumed name. She controlled her emotions most of the time. When angry, she would cover her mouth so others would not see her lips blush. Eventually, the stress of fighting herself wore her down and she killed several people. Over the course of the next three years, she started over dozens of times under new names or else killed all witnesses and then claimed to be an escaped victim. She herself is responsible for some of the rumors surrounding the Red Lips legend. She also became a vigilante, wearing a flashy outfit and fighting bullies, criminals, and terrorists at night. For a while, she thought she was finally learning to control herself. One bad day, she killed her only friend Lamb. Overcome by years of suppressed guilt and frustration, she accidentally brought her back to life and healed her.
With the knowledge of her healing powers, and a conviction to stop fighting who she was, but rather to fix any problems she created after the fact, she learned medicine, learned to apologize a lot, and continued to fight crime as Red Lips. Under much less stress than before, she found herself with enough self-control to maintain a secret identity that only her once-dead friend and a few others know.

Dislikes: doing math, injustice
Description: Lamb is a female humanoid from a far away planet. Like others of her race, she has a flat nose, large, squinty eyes, bright blue irises, black scleras (in humans, the white part of the eyes), bright orange, curly hair, hot pink skin, small teeth, indigo lips, indigo nipples, and no body hair. Her fingernails are on the undersides of her fingertips. She is extremely nearsighted without her glasses. She can detect water at distances up to one hundred meters even if underground. She can produce an energy field allowing her to destabilize chemical bonds to bend even the stiffest or most brittle or most elastic into any shape with no other lasting changes or heat. For example, she can grab arms and tie them in knots without breaking the bones. She can produce large amounts of lavender mist from slits on her neck to hide in. Her skin reacts to touch by turning snow white for several seconds wherever touched.
History: She lived with her people for nine hundred boring years. Exposed to technology for the first time by a visitor to the planet (Nate), she left with him to explore the galaxy. He gave her the name Lamb. Eventually, they parted ways and she later adopted and named Gumb from another planet. Since leaving her home planet, she has learned fighting styles, advanced mathematics, computer science, and economics.
Likes: electronics, coats, shoes, hats, clothes in general, jewelry, sweets, money
Dislikes: dirt, physical exertion
Description: Gumb looks much like an all-red version of Lamb with thicker hair and no teeth. She is endothermic, has no bones (she uses external metal braces under her clothes), and is completely blind. She has powerful senses of touch and smell. She is very loyal and dutiful. Using a tactile-auditory interface, she is a very good space pilot. The flatworm-like creatures she was derived from are hermaphrodites, but being in essence an expression of Lamb (a female), she thinks of herself as female.
History: On a distant planet live swamp-dwelling flatworm-like creatures. Lamb adopted one first as a pet, naming it Gumb. After decades of molding, sculpting, and teaching, Lamb transformed her pet into a friend. She is the first of her kind to experience as drastic a change.

Description: Sid is a member of the slave race to the Blurps known only as slaves. Like others of his species, he has olive-green skin, no hair anywhere, a shiny black nose (much bigger in males), a shiny black tongue, and a shiny black penis. He has black eyes, small ears, and his brown toenails are more like thimbles while his brown fingernails are like those of a human. He has super strength (lift almost 1000 tons), super regeneration, super digestion (dissolve bombs before they can explode, dissolve glass and metal shards), is immune to all poisons, is resistant to dehydration, and is resistant to pain. He has four hearts that blood can be easily rerouted around should any of them become injured.
The slaves are cognitively bound to do whatever they are told. While they make excellent servants, they do not make good warriors as the enemy can always tell them to do something different. Standing orders are never forgotten and are followed until another says otherwise. This is why at first Sid kicks every door he sees, eats every snake he sees, and cannot help but respond to certain phrases even when he is supposed to remain hidden, providing endless comic relief. At one point, Red Lips tells him to forget everything he has ever learned and he starts babbling like an infant. She soon orders him to remember.
Apart from their Blurp overlords, the slaves get along great with each other since they all want to be helpful and make each other happy. It is when they meet inconsistent, foolish people that problems develop as they cannot stop following orders even when reason insists on it. Red Lips learns that she is even less perfect than she thought.
History: Red Lips is captured by the Blurps and escapes with a nameless slave she starts to call her sidekick. He is very helpful. They are patient with each other’s weaknesses and find they are perfectly matched. They become best friends. Red Lips introduces Sidekick to Lamb and the others and they call him Sid for short.
Likes: cheese, singing
Dislikes: Sid appears to have no strong dislikes.
Description: Dot is a sphere with a diameter of two millimeters. It continually circles and creates spatial distortions, allowing it to slip through (non-crystalline) solid objects, create whirlwinds, levitate objects it circles, or spin objects it circles – including spinning peoples’ heads with or without damaging their necks. It is most at home in sand. Dot is hyperactive, mischievous, playful, and often obnoxious. While it can communicate (using wall magnet letters), Dot is considered more of a pet than an actual member of Lamb’s team. Being an aracial being, Dot has no sex or gender.
History: On a sandy planet, Lamb and Gumb stop to aid some miners having equipment problems (with space current drills). It is soon discovered that there is an entity (the karate spider) upset that its home is being attacked. The karate spider is five meters long, capable of creating spatial currents to slip through sand, able to rapidly reshape into a weapon any metal thrown at it, deflect bullets, and slice through any substance. It swings its limbs faster than can be seen, damaging equipment and killing people. At the same time, Dot also causes equipment damage (mostly through clumsiness and ignorance) but never hurts anyone. Lamb investigates and determines that there are two entities to defeat. The karate spider is killed and Dot is driven away. When Lamb leaves the planet, she discovers that Dot is on board her ship. Dot has not left her alone since.

Dislikes: staying in one place
Description: Slimthre is an energy field being that instantly fills whatever room he happens to be in of any size, whether a microscopic cavity or an entire continent (outdoors). To exist, he requires a gas with a density between 35 times Earth’s atmosphere at sea level and one 20th Earth’s atmosphere at sea level. Thus, he is blocked by the oceans and by space. To be considered a room, a volume must be at least 75% surrounded. He can only be in one room at a time.
When filling a room, Slimthre talks to every individual in it simultaneously and incessantly, stopping only sometimes when interrupted. When ignored, he adjusts prosody, tempo, inflection, pitch, or volume so that everyone focuses on only him. He is capable of delivering pain to most creatures and providing a force to move objects (or keep people in the room). This force can lift up to a ton. He is capable of producing radio interference, teleportation interference (immobilizing Shelves), and of developing immunity to whatever energy attack does not kill him.
Little is known of him, but he is likely asexual. Still, the main protagonists think of him as male.
History: Slimthre was first discovered during a mining operation when he was freed from a geode. Over the next 48 hours, he moved into larger and larger rooms, increasing in intelligence, and changing from playing with animals to exclusively conversing with people. Becoming obnoxious, disruptive, and unprofitable, several miners met in a water tank to decide what to do with him, but Slimthre hid inside the facemask of one of them. They eventually collapse the mine to trap him.
Likes: business, religion, architecture, computers, cooking, irrigation, gambling, politics, model building
Dislikes: not constantly being the center of attention
Mobukopu: The Mobukopu are yellow-brown humanoids with short, thin hair everywhere except their faces (hairless) and the outer sides of their legs (much longer, thicker hair). Their ancestors used to walk a lot through tall, rough grass. They live on the planet Mobukoput.
Spidips: The Spidips have detachable holdfasts under their mouths and a single, long, bony tentacle dotted with several eyes. There are moist patches under each eye and the tentacle ends in a bulb. They come in a variety of races, including white, yellow, and green. They have no anus, but rather atomize their waste and breathe it out through their skin. They smell like onions or celery. Having no hands, they control their vehicles by shifting their weight on tipsy tables. The bulbs on the end of their tentacles can also be used to hit buttons. To grasp objects, they wrap their tentacles around them. They live on the planet Spidipa.
Lamb: The Lamb have no personal names, no name for their race, and no name for their planet. They were named by the same visitor (Nate) that took Lamb (the character) away with him. They use no tools, no clothes, no houses, and indeed have never known any technology except for their powerful weather-control systems. They live in misty bamboo forests and eat raw mushrooms.
2: Monsters Beneath The Sand: Lamb, Gumb, and Red Lips save the miners on the sandy planet, defeat the karate spider, and meet Dot, unwittingly taking it with them when they leave the planet.
3: Surprise!: As hired mercenaries, Lamb, Gumb, and Red Lips return to Mobukoput to deal with the menace of Shelves. They end up befriending him and help him foil a bank robbery. Dot causes some trouble and provides comic relief.
4: Pretty Ugly: While they repeatedly fail to get rid of Dot, Lamb, Gumb, Red Lips, and Shelves are hired to exterminate Endrellea on planet Spidipa. They end up befriending her and she joins the team.
5: The Sidekick: While confronting the Blurps, Red Lips is separated from the others and befriends a slave she names Sidekick (later Sid). They become best friends and he joins the team. Sid falls in love with Red Lips but is too shy to tell her. After discussing the issue with Lamb, Lamb tells him to do what he wants to do, knowing that as a slave he cannot help but do what he is told. Unfortunately, Red Lips becomes inexplicably angry (even to herself) and chars Sid far beyond her healing abilities. Scared, confused, and embarrassed, she runs away and goes into hiding, never knowing that Sid survives and regenerates on his own. The entire team misses her.
6: Search For Steelbeard’s Treasure: The team is hired to locate the lost treasure of the robot pirate Steelbeard. One clue is located at the center of a strange, rose-like formation that the treasure hunters only realize is a giant version of a carnivorous ant masher flower once they have reached the safe zone at the center and it comes to life. Shelves is elsewhere and Dot comes to their rescue, lifting them all in a whirlwind. Dot becomes more useful after that.
7: Peace And Quiet: The team is hired to guard a mine, but the threat comes from below instead of above. Slimthre is discovered and the mine is closed.
8: Just Following Orders: The team runs into the Blurps again and it is revealed that Sid had been under Blurp orders not to reveal that he was under orders even if ordered to reveal he was under orders. The entire team except Lamb is captured and chained to a wall. Lamb brilliantly sends Dot in a package Trojan-Horse-style without Dot even knowing it is being manipulated (you can never trust Dot to follow orders). Dot rescues the team.
9: Pursuit: Sid is very worried about Red Lips, hoping that she has found other friends so she isn’t lonely and that she hasn’t tried to hurt herself. He is also still very much in love with her. After discussing the issue with Lamb, Lamb orders him to find her. The whole team looks for her, but when they are tempted to give up, Sid cannot. Finally, they find her and she rejoins the team before marrying Sid.
10: Rise Of The King: Slimthre escapes the mine and takes control of an entire continent, tearing down houses and outlawing rooms. Lamb tricks him into a spaceship, offering to travel with him to other planets so they can conquer them one by one. Once in space, she opens the airlock and Slimthre ceases to exist.
16: The King’s Revenge: It is revealed that Slimthre survived his last encounter with the team by hiding in a microscopic pocket on the side of a tool, using his force power to hold a tiny bubble of air there. Later this debris was recovered by a salvage ship, which Slimthre promptly took over and ordered the crew to convert into a battleship. Finally finding Lamb’s ship, he attempts to act out his revenge.
