Nathaniel buys time by promising to give them information leading to Nathaniel’s whereabouts. While the aliens check his story, he is tossed along with his Stuffians into a wall of living taffy-like material that works its way into every orifice, fully entangling them. He forms an escape plan and continues to buy time by giving the aliens hard-to-verify facts and partial truths. Finally, they escape and are chased by the guards. The guards shoot implosion bolts that compact everything they hit. Fred and Haticat leave behind mini-robots attached to the walls that attack the pursuing guards by transforming into throwing stars. They finally find and steal the captured ship the aliens mentioned, so in the end it really becomes one of Nathaniel’s ships after all, which is likely exactly how the OCP came to think it was. The ship is little more than a large bed with a force field to hold in the air as it travels through space. Pillows orbit it at different distances, including the control pillow, which passes close enough to grab once every twenty-two seconds.
The spaghetti creatures long to be free to move themselves without being carried, but outside the bowls they scatter apart. They do not seem to realize this. Nathaniel helps them to face reality while he is not misleading them about his whereabouts.
