One of the more unusual arthropods of the jungles of planet Lup, this monstrosity glides from the treetops to attack its prey from above. Sunlight passes through the transparent wings to create dazzling and confusing spots on the jungle floor, distracting any prey of low intelligence, which often chases after the spots. The creatures have large, simple eyes like vertebrates on both the dorsal and ventral surfaces and they have excellent eyesight. There are 127 species that range in size as adults from 4 centimeters to 4 meters across. They often take down animals much larger than themselves by biting through the spinal column. When this happens, they can only eat part of their catch, leaving the rest for scavengers.
